The frame has a dual purpose, both to complement and enhance the appearance of the image or item that it houses, and also to provide it with protection. Find out more about the individual elements of the framing job below.
As well as being complementary to the art or object that it surrounds, ideally a frame should also match the decor of the room that it is to be displayed in.
We have a large selection of frame styles, ranging from traditional to contemporary, from which you will be able to choose the perfect frame for your art.
Most of our work is carried out to the Fine Art Trade Guild's 'conservation' level, which ensures your art will be protected for many years to come. We will provide advice on a suitable conservation level for your item.
Mounts tend to give the artwork more prominence, drawing the eye towards the image. In order to function effectively, mounts should not be too distracting, therefore it is a good idea to stay away from colours that are stronger than those in the image, or do not reflect colours in the image. White and antique white mounts work well for the majority of pictures. However, used wisely, coloured mounts can be very effective when reflecting the ‘mood’ of the image. Double or triple mounts provide a subtle border to the art, and wide mounts give a very contemporary look, especially when used with smaller or square images. Oval mounts for portraits, etc. can also be made. We have a large range of mount samples that we can place next to your art to find the ideal combination.
Most of the time plain glass is all that is necessary, however, under certain circumstances anti-reflective, museum quality or laminated glass may be called for. If a frame is large and needs to be transported, perspex can be used. We'll be happy to advise as to what is necessary.
We stock a range of hanging hardware, from D-rings and string to anti-theft systems. Let us know what you need.
